01Your rent check

How does RentScore compare my rent?

RentScore compares your monthly rent with renter-reported apartments in the same neighborhood, bedroom count, and building type. If there are fewer than eight reports, it widens the pool to nearby neighborhoods and then the borough. The estimate also adjusts for selected amenities, including in-unit laundry, a doorman, outdoor space, and a dishwasher.

02Your rent check

What does “Low confidence” mean?

It means the comparison has fewer than eight reports. A smaller sample is a less certain snapshot, even when RentScore can show a result. Neighborhood summaries appear only when at least three comparable apartments are represented, and individual rent reports are not displayed.

03Your rent check

Are renter reports independently verified?

No. RentScore uses information renters submit; it does not independently verify each report. Results are estimates, not an appraisal, a rent determination, or legal advice.

04Privacy

What information does the rent check ask for?

The rent check asks for rent and apartment details such as neighborhood, bedrooms, building type, and amenities. It does not ask for your name, email, street address, or building name. Your exact rent is used to calculate your result, but individual reports are never shown publicly. A shared result leaves out your exact rent, address, building, and name.

05Rent stabilization

Can RentScore tell me whether my apartment is rent-stabilized?

No. Your answer in the rent check is not an official status check, and RentScore cannot determine whether a rent or increase is lawful. If you are unsure, check your lease or use New York City’s official rent-stabilization resources to learn how to request rent-history information.

06Renewal tools

What’s included in the Renewal Kit?

The current renewal offer is a downloadable, general-purpose negotiation toolkit with a preparation checklist, an editable landlord email and follow-up, and notes for proposed terms. It is not personalized rent-comparable research or legal advice, and it cannot guarantee a particular outcome. Check the offer on the homepage for availability and current price.

RentScore estimates use renter-reported information. They are not appraisals, official rent histories, or legal advice.
